1914-1918 War
The 1914-1918 war, known as World War I, was a global conflict primarily involving European powers and their colonies. It started after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and was fueled by complex alliances, nationalism, and militarism. Trench warfare and new technology like machine guns and tanks made it deadly and destructive. The war caused massive casualties, political upheaval, and led to the collapse of empires. It ended with the Treaty of Versailles in 1919, significantly shaping the 20th century and setting the stage for future conflicts.
