1857 Rebellion

The 1857 Rebellion, also called the First War of Indian Independence, was a major uprising against British rule in India. Indian soldiers known as sepoys rebelled due to dissatisfaction with British policies, including cultural insensitivity and unfair treatment. The rebellion involved widespread violence and aimed to overthrow British control. Although it was eventually suppressed, it marked a turning point, leading the British to take direct control of India from the East India Company. The uprising highlighted Indian resistance to colonial rule and fueled future movements for independence.
