1855 Revolt

The 1855 Revolt was an uprising in India, mainly among soldiers known as sepoys, who were upset over issues like pay, privileges, and disrespect from British officers. Tensions worsened when rumors spread that cartridges were greased with animal fat, offending Hindu and Muslim religious beliefs. This led to a widespread rebellion against British rule, marked by armed clashes and intense fighting. Although ultimately suppressed, the revolt highlighted deep dissatisfaction with colonial authority and contributed to the eventual restructuring of British governance in India.
