ZZW (Jewish Military Union)

The ZZW (Jewish Military Union) was a clandestine organization founded in 1942 in the Warsaw Ghetto, aimed at resisting Nazi oppression through armed resistance. Comprising primarily young Jewish fighters, it sought to prepare for and potentially coordinate armed actions against Nazi forces and collaborators. Although relatively small and less known than other resistance groups like the ŻOB, the ZZW played a significant role in clandestine activities inside the ghetto, emphasizing self-defense and resistance. Their efforts reflected Jewish determination to oppose Holocaust atrocities and maintain dignity amid dire circumstances.
