Zugzwang

Zugzwang is a chess term describing a situation where a player is forced to make a move, but any move they make will worsen their position. Essentially, they are "compelled to move," and doing so will put them at a disadvantage, often leading to losing the game. It occurs when a player’s options are limited, and choosing to move will inevitably result in a disadvantage, such as losing material or checkmate. Zugzwang highlights the importance of timing and strategic planning, where sometimes doing nothing is better than making a detrimental move.
