Zollinger-Ellison syndrome diagnosis

Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is diagnosed by measuring elevated levels of gastrin, a hormone that stimulates stomach acid production, through blood tests. Sometimes, doctors perform secretin tests, where secretin is injected to see if gastrin levels rise abnormally. Imaging scans like CT or MRI are used to locate tumors (gastric neuroendocrine tumors) responsible for excess gastrin. Endoscopy may also be performed to examine the stomach lining. Combining these tests helps doctors confirm the presence of this condition, identify tumors, and plan appropriate treatment.
