Zimbabwean dollar

The Zimbabwean dollar (Z$) was the official currency of Zimbabwe, introduced in 1980 to replace the Rhodesian dollar. Over time, economic challenges, including hyperinflation, dramatically devalued its value, leading to frequent currency instability and the abandonment of the dollar in 2009. In 2009, Zimbabwe adopted multiple foreign currencies, like the US dollar and South African rand, for stability. The country reintroduced a new Zimbabwean dollar in 2019 to regain monetary sovereignty, but it remains subject to inflationary pressures. The currency reflects Zimbabwe’s economic struggles and efforts to regain financial control.
