ZIKV (Zika virus)

Zika virus (ZIKV) is a mosquito-borne virus primarily transmitted through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes. Symptoms are often mild and can include fever, rash, joint pain, and red eyes. While most people recover without serious issues, Zika is concerning because it can cause birth defects, particularly microcephaly, in babies born to infected mothers. The virus has received global attention due to outbreaks in various countries, prompting public health efforts to control mosquito populations and raise awareness of preventive measures, especially for pregnant women. There is currently no specific treatment or vaccine for Zika.
