Zikist Movement
The Zikist Movement was a political group in Nigeria during the 1940s that emerged around the leadership of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe. It aimed to promote Nigerian independence from British colonial rule through active activism and political mobilization. The movement emphasized nationalism, self-governance, and the rights of Nigerians, advocating for mass protests and civil disobedience against colonial authorities. Although it faced suppression, the movement played a significant role in inspiring later independence efforts and fostering national consciousness. It contributed to Nigeria’s transition from colonial rule to independence, which was achieved in 1960.
