Zhao Ziyang

Zhao Ziyang was a Chinese politician who served as Premier and General Secretary of the Communist Party. He was known for advocating economic reforms and greater openness, aiming to modernize China's economy. In 1989, during protests in Tiananmen Square demanding political freedom, Zhao supported dialogue and reform, but the ruling authorities cracked down on the protests. As a result, he was removed from his positions and placed under house arrest, remaining silent publicly afterward.
