Zero-sum game

A zero-sum game is a scenario where one participant’s gain or loss is exactly balanced by the losses or gains of others. In other words, the total "pie" remains the same; if one person wins, another must lose an equal amount. Examples include betting, poker, or competitive sports scores. It differs from situations where all parties can benefit simultaneously, which are called positive-sum games. Zero-sum games are fundamental in economics and strategic decision-making, illustrating situations where the focus is on dividing existing resources rather than creating new value.
