Zengi dynasty
The Zengi dynasty was a Muslim ruling family in the 12th century, centered primarily in Syria and northern Mesopotamia. Founded by Imad ad-Din Zengi, the dynasty played a key role during the Crusades, aiming to unite Muslim territories and resist Christian invasion. Zengi was notable for capturing important cities like Edessa, which was the first Crusader state to fall. Their leadership emphasized military strength and political consolidation, contributing to the broader Muslim efforts to protect and reclaim lands. The dynasty laid groundwork for subsequent Muslim states, including the Ayyubid dynasty, shaping medieval Middle Eastern history.
