Zaporozhian Cossacks
The Zaporozhian Cossacks were a semi-military community of free Ukrainian warriors who settled along the Dnipro River in what is now Ukraine, mainly during the 16th to 18th centuries. Known for their fierce independence, skilled horseback riding, and naval abilities, they formed a self-governing society that often resisted external authority, including Polish, Ottoman, and Russian powers. Their culture was rich in traditions, celebrations, and a democratic assembly called the "Rada." The Zaporozhian Cossacks played a significant role in regional conflicts and are celebrated as symbols of Ukrainian national identity and resilience.
