Zadeh's fuzzy sets

Zadeh's fuzzy sets are a way to represent information that isn’t just black or white, but has shades of gray. Unlike traditional sets where elements are either in or out, fuzzy sets allow elements to belong to a set to varying degrees, between 0 and 1. For example, instead of saying someone is either tall or not tall, fuzzy sets can express that a person is "somewhat tall," with a degree of membership like 0.7. This approach helps handle uncertainty and vagueness in real-world situations, making systems more flexible and human-like in their reasoning.
