Yusef Salaam

Yusef Salaam is one of the Central Park Five, a group of young men wrongly convicted of assaulting a jogger in New York City in 1989. He was sentenced to prison but was later exonerated in 2002 when DNA evidence proved his innocence. Salaam became an advocate for criminal justice reform and highlighted issues of racial bias and wrongful convictions. His experience underscores the importance of fairness in the legal system and the need to address systemic biases that can lead to wrongful imprisonments.
