Yugoslavia Tribunal (International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia)
The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) was a court established by the United Nations in 1993 to prosecute individuals responsible for serious crimes—such as genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity—that occurred during the conflicts in the Balkans in the 1990s. Its purpose was to deliver justice, uphold international law, and promote accountability for atrocities committed during the breakup of Yugoslavia. The ICTY operated until 2017, issuing judgments against numerous individuals, including military and political leaders, and contributed significantly to international criminal jurisprudence.
