Young Lords
The Young Lords were a civil rights organization established in the late 1960s primarily by Puerto Rican activists in New York City. They fought for the rights of Puerto Ricans and Latino communities, addressing issues like poverty, housing, education, and police brutality. Inspired by the Black Power movement, they promoted cultural pride and community empowerment. The Young Lords organized protests, provided community services, and challenged injustices, aiming to improve social conditions and political representation for marginalized Latinx populations. Their efforts helped raise awareness of ethnic and social inequality and inspired subsequent activism for immigrant and minority rights.
