Yorktown

Yorktown refers to the site of a significant battle in the American Revolutionary War, specifically the Siege of Yorktown in 1781. This decisive confrontation took place in Virginia, where American and French forces, led by General George Washington, surrounded British General Cornwallis's troops. The siege lasted about three weeks, culminating in Cornwallis's surrender on October 19, 1781. This defeat marked the beginning of the end for British attempts to maintain control over the American colonies and paved the way for U.S. independence, ultimately leading to the Treaty of Paris in 1783.
