Ymir (Norse Mythology)
Ymir is a primordial giant in Norse mythology, considered the ancestor of all jötnar (frost giants). According to myth, he emerged from the chaotic primordial waters, called Ginnungagap, when the icy realm of Niflheim met the fiery realm of Muspelheim. Ymir's body was used by the gods Odin and his brothers to create the world: his flesh became the land, his bones the mountains, his blood the seas, and his skull the sky. Ymir symbolizes the chaotic origins of the universe and the Norse belief in creation emerging from elemental chaos.
