Yi Seong-gye

Yi Seong-gye was a prominent Korean general and the founder of the Joseon Dynasty in 1392. Rising to prominence through military skill and leadership during the late Goryeo period, he eventually seized power by overthrowing the Goryeo monarchy. As king, he adopted the name King Taejo and established a new government based on Confucian principles, leading to a long-lasting dynasty that shaped Korea’s culture, politics, and society for centuries. His leadership marked a significant turning point from the previous era, emphasizing stability, reform, and the promotion of Confucian ideals.
