Y-STRs

Y-STRs (Y-chromosomal short tandem repeats) are specific regions on the Y chromosome, which is passed from father to son. These regions contain repeated sequences of DNA that vary among individuals in the number of repeats. Because the Y chromosome is inherited paternally and changes relatively slowly, Y-STRs are useful for tracing male lineage and identifying male DNA in forensic investigations.
