Y Gododdin

"Y Gododdin" is an early Welsh epic poem that commemorates the heroic warriors of the ancient kingdom of Gododdin, located in what is now northern Wales and southern Scotland. It recounts their brave but ultimately failed attempt to defend their land against invading forces, emphasizing themes of loyalty, honor, and sacrifice. Composed around the 9th or 10th century, the poem is notable for its vivid language and insight into early medieval warfare and warrior culture. Though partly fragmentary, "Y Gododdin" remains one of the oldest surviving compositions in Welsh literature, offering a powerful glimpse into Celtic history and values.
