Xpert MTB/RIF Test

The Xpert MTB/RIF Test is a rapid, laboratory-based diagnostic tool used to detect tuberculosis (TB) bacteria and their resistance to the antibiotic rifampicin. Using a small sample of sputum (mucus from the lungs), the test identifies TB genes within about two hours.
