Xpert MTB/RIF Test

The Xpert MTB/RIF Test is a rapid, laboratory-based diagnostic tool used to detect tuberculosis (TB) bacteria and their resistance to the antibiotic rifampicin. Using a small sample of sputum (mucus from the lungs), the test identifies TB genes within about two hours. This helps doctors quickly confirm TB infection and determine if the bacteria are resistant to rifampicin, a key TB drug, allowing for more accurate and timely treatment decisions. It's especially valuable in settings where quick diagnosis can improve patient outcomes and control the spread of TB.
