Xpert MTB/RIF assay
The Xpert MTB/RIF assay is a rapid diagnostic test used to detect tuberculosis (TB) bacteria and identify if the bacteria are resistant to the antibiotic rifampicin, which is commonly used to treat TB. It works by analyzing a small sample, usually sputum, using advanced molecular technology to quickly identify TB DNA and resistance mutations. Results are typically available within two hours, enabling faster diagnosis and appropriate treatment decisions. This test improves TB detection accuracy, especially in cases where traditional methods are slower or less effective.
