Xhosa Wars
The Xhosa Wars, also called the Cape Frontier Wars, were a series of conflicts between British settlers, Dutch-descended settlers (Boers), and the Xhosa people in South Africa from 1779 to 1879. These wars were driven by land disputes, cultural clashes, and competition for resources as settlers expanded into Xhosa territory. The Xhosa fought to protect their land and way of life, while Europeans sought to control the region. The conflicts resulted in significant loss of life, land loss for the Xhosa, and marked a key chapter in South Africa’s colonial history.
