X-SCID

X-linked Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (X-SCID) is a rare genetic disorder where the immune system doesn’t develop or function properly. It’s caused by mutations in a gene on the X chromosome that’s essential for the development of immune cells called T cells and B cells. Without these cells, the body cannot effectively fight infections, making individuals extremely vulnerable to frequent, severe illnesses. Since X-SCID is inherited on the X chromosome, it mostly affects males. Early diagnosis and treatment, such as stem cell transplants, can potentially restore immune function and improve outcomes.
