X/Open
X/Open was an organization established in the late 1980s to promote interoperability and standardization among different computer systems and software. It developed guidelines and specifications to ensure that applications and hardware from various vendors could work together seamlessly, making it easier for businesses and developers to build and deploy systems without being locked into a single company's technology. Today, its principles contributed to the formation of the Single UNIX Specification, helping define what makes a UNIX system consistent across different platforms. In essence, X/Open aimed to create a more open, compatible, and reliable computing environment.
