Wyoming Territorial Legislature

The Wyoming Territorial Legislature was the governing body of the Wyoming Territory before it became a state in 1890. Comprising an elected council and house of representatives, it created laws, managed territorial affairs, and laid the groundwork for state governance. It operated from 1869, when Wyoming was designated a territory, until statehood, shaping the region’s legal and political landscape. Its work helped establish foundational policies and institutions that guided Wyoming’s transition to becoming the 44th U.S. state.
