Wych Elm
The wych elm (Ulmus glabra) is a deciduous tree native to Europe, known for its tall, broad canopy and distinctive bark characterized by rough, ridged texture. It produces serrated, ovate leaves and small, winged seeds called samaras. Wych elms thrive in forests, parks, and large gardens, often growing best in well-drained soils. Historically valued for their strong, flexible timber, they are important for their ecological role, providing habitat and food for various wildlife. Like other elms, wych elms are susceptible to diseases such as Dutch elm disease, which has impacted their populations significantly.
