writ of right
A writ of right is a legal court order used historically in real estate disputes to establish ownership of land. When someone claimed they owned property, the writ prompted a formal, court-led examination of title deeds and records to determine rightful ownership. If the court found the claimant had a valid title, it would confirm their ownership and help resolve disputes. This process is largely obsolete today, replaced by modern deeds and title searches, but it historically served to ensure clarity and legal certainty over property rights through an official judicial procedure.
