wound care guidelines

Wound care involves keeping the injury clean and protected to prevent infection and promote healing. Gently wash the wound with clean water, removing dirt or debris, and pat dry. Apply an antibiotic ointment if recommended, then cover with a sterile bandage. Change the dressing daily or if it becomes wet or dirty. Watch for signs of infection like redness, swelling, warmth, or pus. Keep the wound out of dirt and avoid picking at scabs. If the wound is deep, large, or doesn’t heal properly, seek medical attention promptly for proper assessment and possibly stitches or other treatment.
