World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)
The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) is a global initiative aimed at addressing the digital divide and promoting the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) for development. Launched by the United Nations, it held its first summit in Geneva in 2003 and a second in Tunis in 2005. WSIS focuses on enhancing access to information, encouraging participation in the digital economy, and fostering collaboration among governments, private sectors, and civil societies. The goal is to ensure that everyone can benefit from the opportunities presented by the digital age, fostering sustainable development and social inclusion.
