World Soundscape Project
The World Soundscape Project, started in the 1970s at the University of British Columbia, aimed to study and preserve the sonic environment— the sounds that make up our surroundings. It highlighted the importance of natural, cultural, and urban sounds, advocating for awareness of noise pollution and the value of sound in shaping human experience. The project involved recording diverse soundscapes, analyzing their qualities, and promoting better management of sound environments to enhance quality of life and cultural understanding.
