World Aeronautical Chart (WAC)
A World Aeronautical Chart (WAC) is a type of map used by pilots for navigation and planning flights. It provides a broad, top-down view of large geographical areas, showing important information like airports, airways, navigation aids, terrain features, and controlled airspace boundaries. WACs are scaled to cover about 1:1,000,000, meaning one inch on the chart equals roughly 15 miles on the ground. They help pilots understand where they are, plan routes, and avoid hazards, all while being easy to view quickly during navigation.
