Woodcut
A woodcut is a traditional printmaking process where an image is carved into the surface of a wooden block. The artist cuts away the areas that should remain white or uninked, leaving the design in relief. Ink is then applied to the raised surfaces, and the block is pressed onto paper, transferring the image. This method creates bold, graphic images with strong contrasts and was historically used for illustrations and art before modern printing techniques. Woodcutting requires skillful carving and offers a direct, tactile approach to creating images through the physical manipulation of wood.
