Women's Royal Naval Service

The Women’s Royal Naval Service (WRNS), also known as Wrens, was the women's branch of the Royal Navy in the UK, established in 1917. It allowed women to serve in various support roles, such as communications, administration, and technical positions, contributing significantly to naval operations during both World Wars and beyond. Women in the WRNS operated alongside male sailors but were initially restricted from combat roles. The service was disbanded in 1990, with women fully integrating into the Royal Navy today. The WRNS played a crucial role in expanding gender equality within the armed forces.
