Women's Political Council
The Women's Political Council (WPC) was an organization founded in 1946 in Montgomery, Alabama, by African-American women to advocate for civil rights and challenge racial discrimination. It focused on addressing issues such as racial segregation, voting rights, and equitable treatment in education and public services. The WPC played a significant role in mobilizing the Black community and was instrumental in organizing the Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955-1956, which became a pivotal event in the Civil Rights Movement. The council empowered women to actively participate in social change and worked to elevate African Americans' voices in local politics.
