Women's Air Service Pilots
The Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) were a group of female pilots who served during World War II. Established in 1943, they flew military aircraft to free up male pilots for combat. WASP conducted training missions, transported planes, and performed various non-combat roles. Although they were not officially military members initially, their contributions were vital to the war effort. After the war, they faced challenges in gaining recognition and benefits. In 1977, WASP members were granted veteran status, honoring their significant role in aviation and demonstrating women's capabilities in traditionally male-dominated fields.
