Women in Afghanistan

Women in Afghanistan have historically faced significant challenges due to social, cultural, and political factors. Under Taliban rule (1996–2001), their rights were severely restricted, limiting education, employment, and freedom of movement. Following the 2001 overthrow of the Taliban, efforts were made to improve women’s access to education, healthcare, and participation in public life. However, since the Taliban's return to power in 2021, many restrictions have been reinstated, impacting women’s rights and daily life. The situation remains complex, with ongoing struggles for gender equality amid ongoing political instability.
