Women in Afghan Government
Women in the Afghan government have historically faced significant challenges due to cultural norms, conflict, and political changes, with their participation fluctuating over time. During the Taliban's rule (1996–2001), women's rights were severely restricted. After 2001, efforts were made to increase women's representation in government and public life, with some women holding key positions, advocating for education, health, and human rights. However, following the Taliban's return to power in 2021, women's roles in governance and public participation have again been curtailed, highlighting ongoing struggles for gender equality and women's empowerment within Afghanistan's political landscape.
