Wolfgang K. H. Panofsky

Wolfgang K. H. Panofsky was a prominent American physicist known for his significant contributions to particle physics and nuclear science. Born in 1918 in Germany, he studied at California Institute of Technology and played a crucial role in the development of major experimental techniques, including the invention of the liquid hydrogen target. Panofsky was also involved in various research projects, including work on the Manhattan Project during World War II. Later in his career, he served as the director of the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, promoting advancements in high-energy physics and fostering international scientific collaboration. He passed away in 2022.
