Windrush scandal
The Windrush scandal involves the wrongful treatment of Caribbean migrants, known as the WindrushGeneration, who arrived in the UK between 1948 and 1971 to help rebuild the country. Many lacked formal paperwork but had legal rights. Decades later, the UK government implemented strict immigration checks, wrongly accusing some Windrush migrants of unlawful status. This led to wrongful detention, denial of healthcare and employment, and even deportations. The scandal exposed failures in government policy, causing public outrage and prompting apologies, as it unfairly targeted long-standing residents who contributed significantly to British society.
