Windrush
The Windrush refers to the HMT Empire Windrush, a ship that arrived in the UK from Jamaica in 1948, carrying many Caribbean migrants. These individuals were invited to help fill labor shortages after World War II. Over the years, the term "Windrush" has come to symbolize the contributions and challenges faced by Caribbean immigrants in Britain. In 2018, the Windrush scandal emerged, revealing that many of these individuals, despite having the right to stay, were wrongfully detained, denied legal rights, or deported due to insufficient documentation, sparking widespread outrage and calls for reform.
