Williamite Army
The Williamite Army was the military force loyal to William of Orange during the late 17th-century conflicts in Ireland and Europe. It fought against the Jacobite Army, which supported James II, in the struggle for political power following the Glorious Revolution. The Williamite forces aimed to preserve Protestant rule and prevent Catholic dominance. Their victory at the Battle of Boyne in 1690 was a turning point, securing William’s control over Ireland and establishing the Protestant ascendancy. The army comprised infantry, cavalry, and artillery units, and its success helped shape the political landscape of Ireland and Britain for years to come.
