William Willett
William Willett was a British architect and outdoor enthusiast who, in the early 20th century, campaigned for Daylight Saving Time—moving clocks forward in summer to make better use of daylight and save energy. Inspired by noticing many people wasting morning light, he proposed adjusting our clocks to extend evening daylight hours. Though he lobbied for this idea, he did not live to see it adopted; it was implemented during World War I to conserve resources. Willett's efforts laid the groundwork for modern Daylight Saving Time, which aims to improve energy efficiency and provide additional daylight for leisure and outdoor activities.
