William E. A. Hounsfield

William E. A. Hounsfield was a British engineer and scientist who invented the CT (Computed Tomography) scanner in the early 1970s. His innovation allowed doctors to see detailed, cross-sectional images of the inside of the human body without surgery, greatly improving diagnosis and treatment. Hounsfield's work involved developing technology to compile numerous X-ray images taken from different angles into clear, 3D representations of tissues and organs. In recognition of his contribution, he received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1979. His invention revolutionized medical imaging and enhanced patient care worldwide.
