William Conqueror

William the Conqueror, born in 1028, was the Duke of Normandy and later became the first Norman King of England after his victory at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. His claim to the English throne was based on his relation to Edward the Confessor. After conquering England, he established strong central rule, introduced Norman culture, and commissioned the Domesday Book, a detailed survey of his new kingdom. His reign significantly transformed English society, language, and governance, laying the foundation for modern England. William passed away in 1087, leaving a lasting legacy in history.
