William Clark (explorer)

William Clark was an American explorer and soldier best known for co-leading the Lewis and Clark Expedition (1804-1806) with Meriwether Lewis. Their goal was to map the newly acquired Louisiana Territory, find a practical route to the Pacific Ocean, and study the region’s geography, plants, and Native American tribes. Clark was highly skilled in cartography, navigation, and diplomacy, which helped the expedition succeed. His contributions were vital in expanding U.S. knowledge of the western territories, laying the groundwork for westward expansion and future exploration.
