Willem Barentsz

Willem Barentsz was a 16th-century Dutch explorer known for his voyages to the Arctic. He aimed to find new trade routes and explore uncharted territories. In 1596, he led an expedition to find a Northeast Passage through northern Russia, but his ship became trapped in ice near present-day Norway. Despite harsh conditions, he and his crew managed to survive temporarily before being stranded. Barentsz's efforts expanded European knowledge of the Arctic region and inspired future explorations.
