Wildfire Smoke
Wildfire smoke consists of tiny particles and gases released when vegetation burns. These particles, called particulate matter, can be inhaled deep into the lungs, causing health issues such as breathing difficulties, eye irritation, and worsened existing respiratory conditions. Smoke also contains harmful chemicals that can affect the heart and lungs. The severity of health impacts depends on the smoke concentration, duration of exposure, and individual health. During wildfires, authorities recommend limiting outdoor activities, especially for vulnerable groups, and staying indoors with filtered air when possible.
